Introduction
You have just chosen pokemon ruby sapphire over other games! If not, don’t bother continue reading, because I am just going to mention everything about pokemon ruby sapphire. I myself am a pokemon ruby player and I am totally fascinated by it. Hence, I dedicate this guide to all you pokemon ruby sapphire lovers!

I’m not going to tell you the step by step workout for the walkthrough. The walkthrough is pretty easy, so you’ll have to figure that out yourselves, ok?

Now, let’s get started shall we?First, you appear on a car, blah blah blah… then after you do all the requirements, you have to save a pokemon professor from a wild poochyena. So, you have to choose between Torchic,Mudkip and Treeko. So, this is an in-depth guide to choose between the three. Personally, I prefer and chose Mudkip because of its great move set and cuteness.However, as I realized, Mudkip may not be the best choice. (But Mudkip still rocks! And so does Marshtomp and Swampert.)
Pros
Torchic: Highest attacking power. Great against high HP normal pokemon. Is fire typed and fire typed pokemon are rare in Hoenn. Lastly it is great for fighting Steven and Glacia, and several other gym leaders like Norman. A great choice for the battle tower.
Treeko: Highest speed. False swipe is great for capturing legendary pokemon but I don’t recommend you to have this in your 4 moves. Sceptile is absolutely charming! Able to allow the first few parts of the game to progress quickly.
Mudkip: When evolved, it has an ultra great move set, like earthquake and muddy water. it is the only starter that can learn the useful “surf”. Also, it is water typed. But, when it evolves, it turns into part ground typed, negating the effects of electricity, making it only vulnerable to grass typed moves and pokemon. However, because of its water type, it is able to learn ice typed moves which are effective to damage grass types too.
Cons
Torchic: Has many elemental weaknesses and fares badly against drake the dragon master. Its move set isn’t very good either.
Treeko: Doesn’t learn a wide array of moves fares badly against drake too.
Mudkip: Doesn’t have an outstanding stat is very low on HP and defense and speed.

So, have you made your choice??? All of the three starters are excellent, so be wise about choosing… after you have made your choice, you are about to start your very own adventure! Before you meet your rival, be it Brendan and May, you should level up your pokemon to at least a level, say 9 or 10? It may be very hard but keep on fighting the wild pokemon and you’ll reach soon. After that, you will be able to go fight pokemon trainers and level up easier.
Way of capturing pokemonAt first, I usually prefer to just throw pokeballs at Pokemons, but, it appears that it is much better to hit it first at least to a yellow HP bar before capturing it. So, always go for a low power attack, like a rock smash or fury cutter. Don’t worry about using HMs, but, just be sure not to fill your Pokemon’s 4 attack moves with HMs. Capturing a wild Pokemon at a low level is the best, because you get to monitor their stats and way of growth and also their move set. Go for a balanced pokemon set, but don’t forget to include your favourites!!!

Way of leveling your pokemon
There are a few ways of leveling up your pokemon and I am going to introduce the pros and cons of every single one of them. All of them are very familiar to you and I am just going to add in some of my own opinions too.
1. Encountering wild pokemon
Pros: good for low-level training and replaces the lack of pokemon trainers
Cons: wild pokemon are often too low leveled and gives little experience once your own pokemon progresses to level 35 and above.Suggestion: Don’t always use max repel. You may just need the extra experience. Just use this as a supplement for training.
2. Fighting pokemon trainers
Pros: readily gets experience 1.5x or 2x those of wild pokemon. You earn money too. Available in later parts of game.
Cons: fighting the trainer a second time requires loads of time wasted while waiting.Suggestion: best way to train before you take on the elite four.
3. Elite four
Pros: best way to train and earn some serious money. Each pokemon gives and average of 1000+ to 2000+ experience.
Cons: very boring! I fought them over 60 times.Suggestion: still, it is the best way to train!
4&5. Daycare and Exp share
Pros: good way to train weaker pokemon
Cons: daycare is slow and exp share eats into your training of other pokemons!Suggestion: Put a weaker pokemon into daycare and use exp share to level it before it has good moves.
The ultimate pokemon moves!Now, I am going to list out a few pokemon moves that I consider excellent and suggest you guys to use it on your most formidable pokemon!
1. Earthquake—power is strong, great move for all starters to learn
2. Brick Break—able to counter the HP-tanked normal pokemons
3. Psychic—a must learn for your main psychic pokemon, great power and lowers defense
4. Fire Blast—main fire attack, good power and also has a good percentage of accuracy
5. Giga drain—your pokemon can get back health, plus deals damage with 60 powers.
6. Thunder – has a great power, but misses more often than fire blast and blizzard
7. Ice beam—hits do not miss as much as blizzard and pokemon does not avoid it more than blizzard.
8. Shadow ball—a main ghost and powerful ghost attack.
9. Iron tail—there aren’t many steel-typed TMs…
10. Aerial Ace—doesn’t miss at all, so even if your opponent uses double team you should not miss!

A word about pokemon moves
I personally feel that only offensive moves are the best. For example, if your foe has a move that can finish you in 1 turn, you should not waste any turns on increasing your attack or your defense whatsoever. Instead, keep firing at him. If you do not kill him, at least you make him much easier for your next pokemon, increasing your chance of winning. If you pokemon type or move is the not very effective type, don’t worry. Just dish out your most powerful attack (the move with the highest power) and let nature take its turn.
Also, sometimes, an attack with the lower power but higher accuracy may actually be better. For, example, you have shock wave and thunder. Thunder’s accuracy is 75, while shock wave won’t miss. Thunder’s power is 120 while shock wave’s 60. The ratio is 2:1. Hence, if you can KO your opponent can be finished in 1 turn by thunder, you can probably finish the same one in 2-3 turns by shock wave.
Lastly, try to cover all move types. As I have mentioned, try to let your water pokemon learn an ice attack, so that it will at least have some chance of beating their arch rivals, the grass type. So, try to let ice learn water, fire-ground, etc.
